Old Gold Reefs, New Wi-Fi Problems
Mcmahons Reef, usually written McMahons Reef on the signs, is a rural locality north of Harden and Murrumburrah in the Hilltops, named for the quartz reef that drew gold miners here in the nineteenth century. The diggings are long gone and the country has returned to what it does best: grazing and cropping on undulating hills cut by creeks, with homesteads, sheds and remnant stands of box and gum. The twin towns to the south are the service centre.
Residents are farming families and rural workers, some with roots that go back to the mining days, and a small number of newer arrivals on lifestyle blocks. They are close enough to Harden for the school bus and the shops but far enough out that connectivity needs thought. TechSend supports Mcmahons Reef households and farm businesses remotely as a first step and on site as part of our regular Harden runs.
Houses in the Hills North of the Twin Towns
The hills that once hid gold now hide fixed-wireless signal. Some Mcmahons Reef homes have a clear line to a tower and a good service; others are in creek valleys where Sky Muster or Starlink is the only realistic option. Mobile reception varies with the terrain. Houses range from old farmhouses with additions built over generations to newer homes on subdivided blocks, most with a home office and a shed.
Families ask us to get the connection right and spread it through the house, to keep computers healthy in dusty and cold conditions, to sort out school devices and to make sure photographs, family history and farm paperwork are backed up. For older residents we make video calls, telehealth and online banking straightforward and safe.
Livestock, Crops and Sheds That Double as Offices
Business at Mcmahons Reef is agriculture: sheep and cattle producers, cropping enterprises and the contractors who serve them, along with a handful of home-based businesses run by people who moved here for space. A modern property depends on electronic livestock identification, online stock and wool sales, chemical and biosecurity records, cloud accounting and machinery telematics, all of which need a connection and a working computer.
We make sure the office computer, the phones and the connection are dependable, that records are backed up and that the family can reach them from the house, the yards or the accountant’s office. We also help with security, because rural businesses receiving and paying large sums are targeted by fake-invoice and payment-redirection scams as much as any city firm.
Mcmahons Reef from the Twin Towns to Kingsvale
The locality lies north of Harden and Murrumburrah, with Demondrille and the railway to the south, Kingsvale and the cherry country to the east toward Young, and Nubba and Wallendbeen to the west. Access is by sealed and gravel roads out of the twin towns, and some properties are best reached by a route the owner needs to explain. Young is about half an hour away and Canberra roughly two hours.
We treat Mcmahons Reef as part of our Harden area, so a technician working in the twin towns can add a property visit with little extra travel. We ask for directions and a mobile number before we set out, handle software and account problems remotely where possible, and aim for same-day or next-business-day visits where we can when an install or repair needs hands on the equipment.
Other places we look after in the 2587 postcode include Aurville 2587, Beggan Beggan 2587, Cunningar 2587, Demondrille 2587 and Garangula 2587. See every suburb in Goulburn – Yass, or our IT Support Canberra page for the whole district.
