Illaroo lies north-west of Nowra, beyond North Nowra and Bangalee, where the suburbs give way to timbered ridges and the Shoalhaven River runs through its gorge below. Illaroo Road threads through the locality towards Tapitallee and the escarpment, passing large bush blocks, a few cleared paddocks and houses tucked back among the trees.
