The Turn-Off Village Between Nowra and the Basin
Tomerong is the village on the Princes Highway where Island Point Road branches off towards St Georges Basin and Sanctuary Point. It has a public school, a community hall, a general store and a long history as a stopping point on the old coach road south, and the surrounding land is a mixture of rural residential blocks, bush, a working quarry and paddocks that give way to state forest in the west.
The people who live around the village value the space and the bush but are still within twenty minutes of Nowra, so many commute to town, to HMAS Albatross or to jobs across the Bay and Basin. Others have swapped Sydney for a few hectares and a home office. Technology has to cope with highway-side businesses, homes at the end of long driveways, and the bushfire risk that comes with living next to forest.
Acreage Households Along Hawken Road and the Highway
Tomerong homes are mostly on rural residential lots of one to five hectares, with a smaller cluster of older houses near the school and hall. Connectivity depends on where you sit: the village core has fixed-line NBN, blocks further out use fixed wireless where the tower is visible, and properties down in the timber have gone to Starlink. Mobile reception along the highway is fine, but it fades a few hundred metres into the bush.
Most houses have at least one outbuilding and a family that wants Wi-Fi in all of them. Add a home worker, a couple of school laptops and a smart TV, and the single modem from the internet provider is not enough.
Roadside Trade and Rural Enterprise at Tomerong
The highway gives Tomerong a business character its neighbours lack. Passing traffic supports the general store and roadside operators, while the quarry, earthmoving contractors, machinery sheds and transport yards on the surrounding roads serve the construction boom across the Shoalhaven. Add nurseries, horse properties, firewood suppliers, fencing contractors and a growing set of home-based consultants, and there is more commerce here than a drive-through suggests.
These businesses tend to run on a laptop in a ute and a desktop in a shed office, with paperwork done at night. Downtime is expensive because it usually means a lost day on a job. We focus on rugged devices, reliable email and cloud copies of quotes, invoices and compliance documents.
Finding Tomerong on the Way South
Tomerong sits on the Princes Highway roughly fifteen kilometres south of Nowra, past Falls Creek and before Wandandian. Turn east at the village and Island Point Road runs to St Georges Basin; keep going south and the highway heads for Sussex Inlet Road and Ulladulla. The Tomerong hall and public school are the village landmarks, and the state forests to the west were badly affected by the 2019-20 fires, so most residents keep a bushfire plan in the drawer.
Because the highway runs through it, the village is easy for TechSend to reach on the way to Basin, Bay and Sussex Inlet jobs, and we aim for same-day or next-business-day visits where we can. Simpler faults are handled remotely first. Tell us which road and gate to use, since some properties have entrances on side roads rather than the highway.
