Small Holdings Along the Darling North of Town
Para is a rural locality on the Darling River north of Wentworth, on the road that follows the river toward Pooncarie. It is closer to town than the big pastoral stations further up, and the holdings reflect that: a mix of working grazing and horticultural blocks, hobby farms of a few dozen hectares, and homes on river frontage owned by people who work in Wentworth or Mildura and want space, animals and a bit of water at the end of the day.
That gives Para a different character from the deep station country. Residents commute, children go to school in Wentworth or Mildura, and the technology needs look more like a town household with a shed attached than a remote homestead. The internet is still rural, though, and the red gums, the distances and the occasional flood shape what works. We support Para households and small businesses with that in mind, remotely first and on site when it helps.
Commuter Households With Animals and a River
Homes at Para range from older farmhouses to newer homes built for the river outlook, usually with a shed, stables or yards nearby. Fixed wireless from the Wentworth direction reaches many addresses, with Starlink for those out of range or wanting more speed. Mobile coverage is generally workable near the road and patchier along the river. Households are typical families: two working parents, school-aged children, a lot of streaming and gaming, and a horse or two.
The recurring requests from Para are Wi-Fi that reaches the stables and shed, school devices that need setting up and locking down, a home office for a parent who works from home part of the week, and cameras to watch the animals and the gate. We handle those, along with the repairs, clean-ups and new device setups every household eventually needs, and we do it without anyone having to drive into Mildura.
Small Farms, Contractors and Home Offices
Businesses at Para are small: grazing and horticultural blocks run alongside a job in town, contractors with a shed and a ute, agistment and horse enterprises, and home offices for people consulting to Mildura or Wentworth firms. Some sell produce or run farm-gate stalls; some host visitors on the river. Nearly all run the business from a phone and a home computer, with the accountant in Mildura at year’s end.
We set these businesses up properly without overdoing it: business email on a domain rather than a free address, invoicing and record-keeping software connected to the accounting package, backups that run automatically, and a network that keeps the business computer separate from the kids’ gaming. For those selling produce or accommodation, a simple website and map listing brings customers who would otherwise never find a Para address.
Para Along the Pooncarie Road
Para is reached from Wentworth by the road north along the Darling toward Pooncarie, with Pomona closer to town and Ellerslie further up the river. Wentworth is the nearest town for shops, schools and services, and Mildura, via Buronga, is about an hour from most Para addresses. The road is sealed near town and unsealed further out, and river lanes can flood in a wet year.
Because Para is within reach of Wentworth and Mildura, we can attend fairly readily as part of work in the district, and we often combine Para visits with jobs in Wentworth, Curlwaa and Pomona. Remote support covers most software, account and device faults quickly, which suits busy commuter households. For antenna, shed and camera work we survey first and then schedule a visit at a time when someone is home.
Other places we look after in the 2648 postcode include Anabranch North 2648, Anabranch South 2648, Boeill Creek 2648, Cal Lal 2648 and Curlwaa 2648. See every suburb in Lower Murray, or our IT Support Canberra page for the whole district.
