Living in the Shadow of the Budawang Range
Budawang is a thinly populated locality in the rugged country east and south-east of Braidwood, named for the Budawang Range whose peaks, including Mount Budawang, dominate the skyline. Budawang National Park and large tracts of state forest take up much of the land, and the few private holdings are bush blocks, grazing runs and retreats reached by gravel roads.
People who settle here tend to be self-reliant. Many run their homes on solar and batteries, collect their own water and accept that the nearest shops are in Braidwood. That independence extends to technology, up to a point: when the inverter app stops talking to the internet, or the laptop that holds the family records will not start, it helps to have someone who understands remote living. That is where we come in.
Off-Grid Homes and the Devices That Run Them
A typical Budawang home might be a mud-brick or timber house with a solar array, a battery bank, a generator in the shed and a satellite dish on a pole. Every electronic device draws on a limited power budget, so the modem, router and computers need to be efficient and set up sensibly.
We help residents choose low-power networking equipment, connect solar and battery systems to their monitoring apps, and keep computers and phones healthy. When the internet is the only link to family, banking and medical advice, getting it right matters, and we explain every decision so you stay in control of your own set-up.
Making a Living From a Remote Block
Livelihoods around Budawang are varied and often combined: small-scale grazing, contract work, arts and crafts, writing, consulting and nature-based accommodation for bushwalkers heading into the park. Some residents work remotely for Canberra employers a few days a week and travel in when required.
Each of these depends on a small number of devices and a single internet connection. We make sure work is backed up away from the property, accounts are secure and a spare device can take over if the main one fails. If you sell work online, our team can also help with a simple ecommerce website that you can manage yourself.
Where Budawang Is and How We Get There
Budawang lies in the Braidwood district of the Queanbeyan-Palerang area, towards Mongarlowe and the Budawang ranges. It is filed under our Shoalhaven pages, which makes some sense: creeks and rivers from this high country, such as the Mongarlowe, feed into the Shoalhaven River system, even though the coast is a long way off. Braidwood is the nearest town, with Canberra about an hour and a half west.
We plan visits here in advance, usually alongside other jobs in the Braidwood area, and ask about road conditions and access before setting out. Much of the troubleshooting can be done remotely. Our software installation and configuration service covers the monitoring apps many off-grid homes rely on.
Other places we look after in the 2622 postcode include Araluen North 2622, Araluen 2622, Back Creek 2622, Ballalaba 2622 and Bendoura 2622. See every suburb in Shoalhaven, or our IT Support Canberra page for the whole district.

What we do in Budawang
IT Support Services
Running slow, overheating, fans roaring or refusing to boot at all? We repair laptops and desktops for homes and offices, with most jobs turned around the same day.
When a machine starts misbehaving, our technicians work through it methodically, isolate the real cause, and get you back up and running instead of guessing.
A new printer, monitor, webcam or external drive should just work. We install and configure peripherals so they slot neatly into your existing setup.
Cracked, flickering or blacked-out laptop, tablet and monitor screens are usually repairable. We assess and replace them with genuine parts, quickly.
A quick SSD swap or extra memory can breathe years back into a tired computer. We fit the upgrades that give you the biggest performance gain for the least outlay.
Whether it is a fresh setup, a migration or the classic will-not-send headache, we sort Microsoft 365, Outlook and Google Workspace email for households and teams.
We design, install and extend wired and Wi-Fi networks so homes and offices from Bonython to Chisholm get strong, secure coverage in every room, including tricky NBN connections.
New phone or tablet? We set it up, connect it and carry across your contacts, messages, photos and apps, so you walk away ready to go with nothing left behind.
Patient one-on-one or small-group training for people of any age and skill level, pitched to where you are at so the lessons actually stick.
Failed hard drive, dead USB stick or files that have simply vanished? We work to recover what matters most to you, and if there is no data there is no fee.
We set up automatic local, cloud or hybrid backups for homes and businesses, then test the restore so you know your files will actually come back when it counts.
Encryption, sensible access controls and clear policies keep your data out of the wrong hands without getting in the way of your working day.
Moving to a new device? We transfer your data across cleanly, check every file landed safely, and keep downtime to a minimum.
A fresh Windows or macOS install clears out years of clutter and lingering infections. We rebuild, reconfigure and restore your machine so it feels new again.
Something new to install, or old programs to clear out? We handle software installs, removals and licensing so everything works together the way it should.
Brand-new or getting on in years, we tune startup items, storage and settings so your computer runs as fast and smoothly as it can.
From the latest consoles to retro favourites, we set them up, sort parental controls, and get them talking to your home network and TV.
Firewalls, antivirus, patching and sensible configuration keep your systems and networks protected, and we step in quickly if something slips through.
We set up and troubleshoot AV, projectors, sound and video conferencing for homes, boardrooms and meeting spaces so presentations just work.
Ransomware, spyware, adware or a stubborn virus? Our technicians remove the infection, recover what they can, and harden the machine so it does not happen again.
New printer refusing to cooperate or an old one gone on strike? We get printing, scanning and drivers working across all your devices.
Not sure what to buy? We give honest, vendor-neutral advice on the devices and solutions that genuinely suit how you live and work.
After damage, loss or theft, we prepare clear condition and valuation reports to support your insurance claim.
CCTV, access control, smart locks, intercoms and alarms, installed, serviced and tied neatly into your network and systems.
