Where the Newell Meets the Riverina Highway
Finley stands at the crossroads of the Newell and Riverina highways in the southern Riverina, a town of a little over two thousand people surrounded by channel-fed irrigation country. Rice, dairy, cereals and fat lambs come off the flat farms around it, and the town itself provides the high school, hospital, showground, lake and main street services for a wide district that takes in Blighty, Berrigan and the localities out towards Tocumwal and Deniliquin.
Truck traffic on the Newell never stops, and neither do the businesses that serve it and the farms. Households in town range from young families to retirees who moved in from the land, and every one of them has more devices than a decade ago. We look after those devices, the connections they run on and the security around them, mostly by remote session and with visits planned around the district.
Town Blocks, Lake Frontage and Dairy Farm Kitchens
Finley’s residential streets are mostly single-storey brick and weatherboard homes on wide blocks, with newer houses around the lake and older cottages near the centre. A meaningful share of the population is retired, many having handed a farm to the next generation and moved into town. Outside the town limits, dairy and rice properties along the channels have farmhouses that double as offices, often with a worker’s cottage nearby.
The town has fixed line NBN and it generally does the job. Farms depend on fixed wireless from towers around the district or on satellite, and Starlink has taken off among dairy families who need reliable uploads for herd records and milk company portals. Summer heat is hard on electronics here: computers and modems tucked into hot cupboards or west-facing rooms fail more often than they should.
Serving Farms, Trucks and the Main Street
The town’s business community reflects its role as a district hub. Agricultural suppliers, machinery dealers, transport depots and fuel outlets line the highways. The main street holds a supermarket, pharmacy, newsagent, cafes, hairdressers, an accountant and real estate offices. Dairy farms, rice growers and cropping operations around the town run sophisticated software for irrigation scheduling, herd management and grain marketing, and depend on milk factories and mills that expect records delivered online.
For these businesses, the vulnerabilities are practical: a transport office with one ageing PC and no backup, a dairy whose herd software is on a laptop that lives in the shed, a shop whose EFTPOS drops out whenever the internet blinks. We tidy that up with managed Microsoft 365 for email and files, backups that run on their own and networks built to be reliable rather than cheap.
Finley and the Southern Riverina Around It
Finley is about 20 kilometres north of Tocumwal and the Murray, with Berrigan to the east, Deniliquin about 55 kilometres north-west, and Jerilderie up the Newell. Blighty sits west along the Riverina Highway, and Logie Brae, Myrtle Park and Retreat are farming localities in the same postcode. Although this page is filed under our Upper Murray listing, Finley is a Central Murray irrigation town and we treat it as its own destination rather than a stop on the way to Corowa.
That means we schedule Finley visits in dedicated runs, taking in Blighty and the surrounding farms on the same day where possible. Most software, email and account problems are handled remotely the day you call. Hardware faults, network installs and antenna work get a booked visit, and we aim for next-business-day where we can. Devices that need a bench can be collected, repaired and returned; see our device upgrades page for options when a repair is not worth it.
Other places we look after in the 2713 postcode include Blighty 2713, Logie Brae 2713, Myrtle Park 2713 and Retreat 2713. See every suburb in Upper Murray Excluding Albury, or our IT Support Canberra page for the whole district.
