Lake Life on the NSW Side of the Water
Mulwala was a modest river crossing until the Yarrawonga Weir was finished in 1939 and the Murray backed up into Lake Mulwala, drowning a red gum forest whose dead trunks still stand in the water. Today the lake defines the town: water skiing, wakeboarding, Murray cod fishing and a foreshore of caravan parks, holiday units and boat ramps. The bridge across to Yarrawonga makes the two towns one community in practice, with shops, schools and sport shared across the border.
Behind the holiday face, Mulwala is a working town. The government-owned munitions factory on its northern edge has been the district’s largest employer for decades, and farming country stretches away towards Savernake and Corowa. Permanent residents, weekenders and holiday operators all lean on their technology in different ways, and we support all three with remote help and visits scheduled around the lake’s busy seasons.
Holiday Houses, Retirement Units and Family Homes
Housing in Mulwala splits three ways. Along Melbourne Street and the foreshore are holiday houses and unit blocks that fill on long weekends and stand empty between them. A ring of brick homes from the 1960s onward holds families connected to the factory, the schools and the clubs. Newer developments near the golf course and along the lake road attract retirees from Melbourne and Albury who spend part of the year here and part elsewhere.
That pattern brings distinctive problems. Weekenders arrive to find the router has been off for a month and nothing reconnects. Retirees who split their time between two homes want one set of devices that works in both. Families with kids at school in Yarrawonga juggle Victorian school portals from a NSW address. Fixed line NBN covers the town, but holiday units often share a single cheap modem that cannot cope with everyone streaming after a day on the water.
Caravan Parks, Ski Clubs, Cafes and the Factory Supply Chain
Tourism sets the rhythm for most businesses here. Caravan parks and holiday parks along the lake, the ski club and bowls club, boat and houseboat hire, bait and tackle shops, cafes and takeaways all run flat out from November to Easter and then quieten sharply. The rest of the year the town is carried by the munitions factory and the contractors and suppliers around it, along with trades, the supermarket, a medical centre and the businesses that serve farms to the north.
Seasonal businesses need systems that do not fall over on a 40-degree Saturday when the park is full and every guest wants Wi-Fi. We design computer and wireless networks for parks and clubs that keep guests, staff and payment systems separate, and we set up bookings and point of sale so casual staff can use them with a five-minute handover. Off season is the time to fix the things everyone lived with over summer.
Finding Us Around the Lake
Mulwala lies about 35 kilometres west of Corowa on the road to Tocumwal, with Yarrawonga directly across the lake bridge in Victoria. Savernake and the cropping country lie to the north, and Collendina and the river bends towards Corowa to the east. The foreshore, the ski club and the bridge approach are the landmarks everyone uses.
We schedule Mulwala visits alongside Corowa and Howlong calls, and we plan around the holiday peaks so a caravan park can get a network job done in the quieter weeks. Remote support handles the bulk of everyday problems, including for absentee owners who need something checked while they are in the city. If you want someone keeping an eye on things year-round, our support options page outlines the plans available.
